This is a luxurious shake for those moments of decadence, that will fill your tank and give you lots of energy to burn!

I know what your thinking, a lot of these so called “healthy” shakes can be high in fat.  And I won’t argue.  But remember, we do need some fat in our diet, so what better way than to increase the healthy fats and reduce the bad fats?  Once enjoyed as an occasional treat you should be perfectly fine.

This shake is high in essential fats, calcium and minerals.

This powerful shake is great as a pre- or post-gym workout smoothie because it contains healthy, digestible protein, maca to boost endurance, vitamins, fiber and minerals from whole foods.  But it’s also just perfect as a filling breakfast or snack.

Maca is a Peruvian root vegetable, a known superfood that’s usually sold in powder form.  It is rich in nutrients, great for balancing hormones and boosting endorphins.

It’s awesome blended into smoothies and has a lovely nutty and slightly sweet taste.

I made my own Almond milk for this but you can of course use a carton.  Just try to choose one that’s unsweetened.

To make your own Almond Milk simply soak 1 cup of raw Almonds in plenty of water overnight. Drain and rinse them next morning and blend with 2-3 cups of water.  The less water you add, the creamier your milk will be.  Pour through a fine strainer or nut milk bag and squeeze out as much liquid as possible, discarding the pulp (pulp can be dried in a low oven or dehydrator and used as flour, made into energy bars, brownies, used to thicken soups… or feed it to the birds!)   Store the milk in a sealed glass jar in the fridge.
